Food for a camping trip

Posted by admin - January 11th, 2009

The food for a camping trip should be simple.

Use to ready to cook or ready eat meals as far as possible. Most groceries stock a wide range of convenience food.

Have pancakes or cereal for breakfast. Instant oatmeal, canned beans, marshmallows , hot dogs, macaroni are convenient and cheap.

Use paper plates as far as possible to reduce the washing work.

Ecofriendly camping trips

Posted by admin - January 11th, 2009

Camps can destroy the environment due to the waste generated. Increasing organisers of camping trips are taking measures to ensure that the trip is eco friendly, in which all refuse, resultant of necessities of the trekking is ecologically disposed or pact-returned to centers where it can be properly disposed.

Biodegradables are burned to facilitate quick disintegration. Plastics and other synthetic materials will be returned to base for recycling.  Each trekker, as well as guide, will receive lightweight recyclable bags for disposal and retaining of their non biodegradable refuse.

Trip grades

Posted by admin - January 10th, 2009

Camping trips can be classified as

Easy

Experience is not necessary at this level.: Anyone who is in good health and fit enough to enjoy a good weekend hill walk can manage easy grade trips. Easy grade trips are short in duration and at lower altitude; often they are optional, giving a chance of a rest day. However, walking always involves some exertion: trails are seldom flat and you must still expect to have a reasonable amount of ascent and descent. You would normally walk for 2-7 hours during the day.

Moderate
Most people who enjoy weekend in the hills or mountains at home are capable of undertaking trek at this level: you need to be in good health and reasonably fit and you will most certainly be taking regular exercise. A trek could be graded as moderate as fairly medium-duration walk, or as a harder shorter walk. Some walking at higher altitude and the occasional longer or more difficult day may be involved but generally conditions underfoot will be fair. A walking day would normally be between 5 to 8 hours long and no experience is necessary.

Camping locations

Posted by admin - January 4th, 2009

Most major cities have a few tourist spots which are weekend getaways for city dwellers. Organizing a camping trip to these locations is easy, as the logistics can be arranged easily.
Also less time is spent traveling to the camping spot and more time can be spent on leisure activities.

However, many of these camping locations are very crowded with tourists and cluttered with waste.

Scheduling your camping trips

Posted by admin - January 3rd, 2009

A camping trip should be scheduled according to the weather in the place where you are planning your camping trip. In tropical areas, especially in interior areas far from the coast, the weather can be very hot and dry during summer, and is more than 40 deg centigrade. It is not advisable to plan a camping trip in this weather, as people may faint. Most camping trips take place during winter, autumn and the monsoon.

On the other hand, many temperate regions have very cold winters with sub zero temperatures and heavy snowfall. Unless the camping gear and tents have sufficient insulation, the campers may have to endure very low temperatures and frost bite. Most camping trips in these regions are organized in spring, summer and autumn, when the weather is warm.

Camping stools

Posted by admin - January 1st, 2009

Going on a trek or hike can be very tiring, especially if you are not used to it. There may be no suitable place available where you can take a short break and rest.

In such cases, camping stools are very handy . They are lightweight and can be carried along with the other camping gear.  The folded stools can be set up in a few seconds. The material used  is washable. A stool costs about $3 all inclusive.
